Why are you passionate about education and teacher development?
I believe in the potential of people from little ones to big ones discovering their passions and strengths to learn and create a meaningful and happy life for themselves, their families and their communities.
Describe a successful teaching strategy that you used in the classroom or that you frequently recommend to your teachers.
Using “Accountable Talk” stems to increasing student discussion and processing. Do you agree or disagree with me on this? Why or Why not? How do you know? Tell me more. I believe oral language skills are one of the gaps that exist for many students and our job is to increase their practice of speaking and engaging in discussion with peers on the level of academics and social discourse that increases their advancement with content, knowledge and college readiness. This type of discourse can be expressed and expected from the smallest 3 year old to the tallest Senior and beyond.
If you had to describe your work on the TEam in three words, what would they be?
What advice would you have for an educator that aspires to become an instructional leader?
Learn baby learn: about yourself, about yours and others’ cultures, about other teachers, about different students and their ways of learning, and from your peers and colleagues. Learn that there will always be more to learn and grow into.
When you are not working on closing the achievement gap, what do you enjoy doing?
Being with my son and husband, whether it is around town, in nature or at home reading, cooking, playing, sewing/crafting, enjoying a little TV goodness. We love having conversations or listening to music with friends! I am dreaming of setting up an art space to do more painting and drawing. It has been awhile. We almost have a chicken coop in the back yard (currently just a boxed off area). And one day I will write, illustrate and publish a children’s book or two. J
Which TE-shirt is your favorite and why?
The “I Heart TE” shirt is my favorite. Why? Because it was my first TE shirt! However, at a close second to eclipse that shirt is my newly acquired TE shirt for this year’s cohort. Now, this year’s shirt is the real McCoy because the teachers we support at TE earned it for me.
