TEam Member Spotlight: Daya Cozzolino

What is your role on the TEam?

Instructional Coach

Where did you study? List all that apply.

Stonehill College

Why are you passionate about education and teacher development?

I am passionate about education and teacher development because I believe kids are the MOST important thing, and that in order for kids to be great they need great teachers.

Describe a successful teaching strategy that you used in the classroom or that you frequently recommend to your teachers.

I often tell teachers to genuinely praise students for both behavior and academics; when the teacher puts positivity into his or her class, he will get positivity in return.

If you had to describe your work on the TEam in three words, what would they be?

Inspirational, challenging, and fulfilling

Inspirational because the members of the TEam are incredible, brilliant people that push me to do whatever it takes for teachers and students. They inspire me to want to do great things!

Challenging because while the work is sometimes difficult, it is exciting and I get the chance to learn new things every day.

Fulfilling because I get to support great teachers and see them grow, along with their students.

What advice would you have for an educator that aspires to become an instructional leader?

Remember that you will not always be able to please everyone, all of the time. Also, make sure that you set an example for teachers, and students as both instructors and as people. Lastly, build strong relationships with those that you support and work with; those positive relationships will provide an anchor for the work that you do.

When you are not working on closing the achievement gap, what do you enjoy doing?

I love running, yoga, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

Which TE-shirt is your favorite and why?

My favorite is the I ❤ TE shirt (hands down) because it perfectly summarizes my feelings about TE.
