TEam Member Spotlight: James Mosley

What is your role on the TEam?

The 2013-2014 school year will serve as my first year of being an instructional coach. I am very excited about entering this new role.

Where did you study? List all that apply.

I studied political science at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. Axe’em JACKS! I studied educational leadership at Concordia University Texas in Austin, TX.

Why are you passionate about education and teacher development?

I am passionate about education because education has the ability to changes lives, families, and generational curses just to name a few. Education breaks barriers and creates opportunities. My passion for education propels me to want all kids regardless of race and socioeconomic status to have an opportunity to be the very best person they can be. I am passionate about teacher development because students can only be successful when they have great teachers in front of them every day. I am passionate about helping teachers perfect their craft so they can give their students sound instruction on a daily basis.

Describe a successful teaching strategy that you used in the classroom or that you frequently recommend to your teachers.

The strategy that I would recommend to teachers is the exit ticket strategy. This is a very effective strategy to assess student learning to ensure that students mastered the learning objective for the day. The exit ticket also allows you to make necessary changes for your next class based on trends you saw in the exit ticket data. Also, the exit ticket helps to establish the culture in your classroom as to how your students should exit the class.

If you had to describe your work on the TEam in three words, what would they be?

Necessary, impactful, and practical

What advice would you have for an educator who aspires to become an instructional leader?

I would advise an inspiring instructional leader to always seek feedback and to focus on driving results in his or her classroom.

When you are not working on closing the achievement gap, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy attempting to play golf, spending time with my family, and keeping up with current events.

Which TE-shirt is your favorite and why?

Since I am new to TE, my favorite shirt is the latest TE-shirt which says Start Strong, Finish Stronger.
