August PLS Preview

Teaching Excellence is gearing up for the start of the 2013-14 school year with some timely session offerings. On August 24th, our YES and KIPP teachers* will be able to participate in courses on the following topics:

Time Management/Outlook:

With so many different requests for your time and responsibilities on your plate, it can be difficult to ensure that no balls get dropped and all obligations are met. This session will teach you the finer points of time management and show you how to apply those tactics to Outlook (which many of our partnership schools encourage). This is highly recommended for any teacher who is new to the professional world or anyone new to the YES/KIPP systems. NOTE: Elementary teachers received a similar session at Induction.

Openings/Closings:

You’ve spent time crafting aligned exit tickets, engaging practice, and clear intros to new material. How you initially open and ultimately close an otherwise high-quality lesson greatly determines your students’ long-term retention of that information. In this session participants will get concrete strategies to both open and close lessons in an effective and engaging way.

Execution Protocol:

You will get an opportunity to incorporate techniques and strategies you learned throughout the day into one of your own lesson plans. Then you’ll deliver a piece of your Intro to New material and receive feedback from a coach.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the 24th.

**Spring Branch teachers will attend their own specially designed PLS on August 17th.
